December 7, 2022
The holiday season is always a busy time for nonprofits and charitable groups. From doing food drives to collecting gift donations, communities gather to create positive impact during this time. One of our club's favorite traditions this time of year is to ring the bell for the Salvation Army. We take this opportunity to volunteer with our SLPs and build a stronger bond with them. This year, we began ringing bells on December 3rd and plan on ringing them again on December 10th at Kroger (Hwy 360 & Green Oaks Blvd). The donations raised for the Red Kettle Campaign go right back to aiding those in our community. The Salvation Army is one of the main homeless shelters in Arlington, Texas, and their services are especially vital for our community during the winter.

Look at us: 70 YEARS RUNNING! To celebrate our anniversary, our club gathered at J. Gilligan's Bar and Grill this past October. Members were able to dig into a delicious Mexican buffet as they mixed and mingled. One of the evening's highlights was our members sharing their club experiences. Member Jannette Workman spoke about her experience becoming the head of the Teacher of the Year committee. Through her dedication and experience, Jannette was able to expand the program and create a memorable yearly event. We have so many members like Jannette who dedicate their time and knowledge to bring out the best in our club. From Larry James and Herman Duh with our BUGs program, Jim Burgess with the School Supply Squad, and many more, we are ever so grateful to have spectacular members that bring our club to life.

The Kiwanis Club of Arlington takes delight in encouraging students to grow academically. Most recently, we visited Lynn Hale Elementary and South Davis Elementary. Bringing Up Grades motivates third graders to Bring Up Their Grades by rewarding them in front of their peers and teachers with tokens, honor roll certificates, and bikes. As of right now, we currently have BUGs programs at three Arlington elementary schools: Hale, Larson, and South Davis.
